Mundell

Rather late, but answering an accusation of quietness on the Mundell saga. People seem to think I'm a Tory. I suppose I lean that way but only because I find them less morally repugnant than Labour and the SNP (both left-wing parties, who agree on nearly everything - witness how many times the SNP has voted against Labour at Holyrood).
Mundell was right. Goldie is useless and is leading the Tories downhill - when McLetchie left (presumably in a taxi) I thought this was impossible. I thought, to coin Labour's pithy slogan, things could only get better - quite simply because they were already at the bottom of the sewer, and I couldn't see them sinking below the floaters.

Showing a negative flair for leadership that would make a Union boss blush Goldie has managed to make the Conservative party even less relevant than it was when she took over. She's even managed not to cling to Play-do Cameron's Mustard-coloured coat tails as he has soared in the polls.

Mundell was also right about the lack of thinkers among Tory MSPs but I suppose that this is hardly suprising. There are very few MSPs who are, in my opinion, capable. I know Gordon Jackson to be a lot brighter than he lets on and there are a few others who will no doubt be cherry picked by Westminster soon enough but the general level of ability in the parliament would be put to shame by a particularly nifty parish council.
McConnell, Goldie, Steven and Sturgeon are all kneehigh to a political pygmy. The entire parliament is devoid of thinkers but I'd say the Tory party especially so. McLetchie is rather bright and they got rid of him. Now he skulks around the party like a teenager with rohypnol waiting for his moment but, as every wannabe teenage romeo knows, the moment never comes. Monteith, a little too libertarian even for my taste, always comes across as smarter than your average MSP but again he's been given the boot. He'll leave in May... as will numerous other talented MSPs. To be replaced with? Professional politicos no doubt who have cut their teeth at Scottish Central Office being indoctrinated by Goldie and the rest of them.
If I was a Tory spinner, and I'm rather glad I'm not, I'd be doing my best to get rid of Goldie and co and get some young guns in there. To be quite frank, they cannot do any worse than the current shower of shite.

I think my politics are similar to yours - I didn't join the Tories because it's just as much fun to tear them apart as it is Labour and the decrepitly leadered lot. This post appears to be in the money.
