Reid... again

What an illiberal bastardo, 'Bomber' Reid has turned into since taking up the reigns at the Home Office. You can almost see him in a tank as it harrumphs down Whitehall... or, more correctly, he probably sees this image in his Buckfast & Chips 'n cheese fuelled dreams.

A few weeks ago, we heard that torture wasn't as bad as these whimpy human rights campaigners made out. We can only win the war on terror, according to this numbskull, by completely altering our way of life. It is a slightly queer logic to argue on the one hand that 'the terrorists want to destroy our way of life' and then surreptitiously attack the facets of our way of life to stop them being able to do so. This isn't cutting your nose off to spite your face, it's cutting your head off with a chainsaw to prove a point.

This week, he told us that al-qa'ida were winning the war on terror. How have we managed to get into that position? This shower are a bunch of 14th century jihadist psychopaths who want to extend their backwards take on a fragrant and peaceful religion across the planet. We've managed to see off Nazism, Communism and all sorts of bizarre tryrannies across the 3rd World but we're going to lose to this lot? How are we losing, John? And if we are losing surely it is you lot to blame?

If you, your party and your allies, cannot convince the overwhelming majority of Muslims globally that the rule of law, democracy and human rights trump jihadist nutcases who believe beheading infidels over their morning porridge is acceptable then you aren't fit to be anywhere near the reigns of power.

If you can't convince the world that female emancipation trumps stoning adulterous women to death, you are a disgrace to the word government.

And following on from this legal wunderkinds views on torture and due process, we get this a domestic theory of pre-emption. A glorious piece from the BBC (emphasis mine):

A few lines later:

He said the interior ministers wanted to use the internet and other media to target young audiences with messages from "secular Muslim" role models, rather than those believing in radical ideologies.

Unbelievable. As ever with an idea from this vicious clown it is completely and utterly contradictory. Why not get a Propellerheaded Wonk to come up with ideas, John? It's not like you don't have enough of them! On the one hand we say the internet is a place for propagandists and it shouldn't be. On the other, we get Muslims to say what we want.

More to the point, what in mother cunt's name is a 'Secular Muslim'? Isn't that an oxymoron? Another one is 'Labour Minister who understands basic legal principles'.

He said police would try to "pre-empt the next attack and attempted attack" by terrorists.

Isn't that what happened with De Menezes? Oopsy daisy.

There would be a "continuing struggle where the terrorists try to get ahead of us and we try to get ahead of them".

The ministers discussed how to encourage dialogue with Muslim communities.

I don't know, John. Why not get every member of your cabinet to out 'right-wing' each other by talking about what Muslims wear? Or, better still, why not tell them how to bring up their kids?
